THE ST ANNATUNNEL
The St Anna pedestrian tunnel links the city with the west (left) bank (Linkeroever). The tunnel was constructed between 1931 and 1933 and is 572 meters long at a depth of 31 metres under the river Scheldt. It is worth a visit just to ride on the escalators they are the original 1930 wooden ones and they don't half make a racket. From the west bank you get a marvellous panoramic views of the city. From the city the entrance to the tunnel can be found at Sint-Jans Vliet, it takes about 10 minutes to walk through and there are a couple of cafes on the west bank to refresh you when you get there.
