DE HERK

 

Reynderstraat 33 

There are sometimes candles at the entrance and a red carpet leads you through a small archway into a small courtyard with seating area and into the "L" shaped bar with three separate drinking areas. 40+ beers, food served.

Directions. From station. Proceed down De Keyserlei and Meir to end, fork left along Schoen Markt, go straight along (following tram lines) to Groenplaats tram stop, then carry straight on into Reyndersstraat (multi story car park on left) bar on the right. Open Mon-Fri from 18.00. Sat-Sun from 15.00. Food available.

 

VAGANT

Reyndersstraat 21

Just a couple of doors further along the street from De Herk is the Genever bar Vagant with a large selection of Belgian Genevers, the flavours range from every type of fruit, nuts, chocolate and anything you care to imagine. They start at about 20% and go up to above 40% so here is a WARNING drink with care. A reasonable selection of beers are also available. Open daily 11.00 to 02.00.

On the opposite corner of Pelgimstraat  is a shop where you can buy bottles of your favourite Genever along with the correct glass to drink it out of at home.

GROOTE WITTE AREND

Reyndersstraat 18

A little further along the street on the opposite side is The Groote Witte Arend (The Great White Eagle), enter into a large courtyard with plenty of seating, The bar and indoor area entrance is at the top left hand corner and over in the right hand corner is a feature seldom found in a bar a Chapel. Good food and reasonable beer list. Open from around 11.00 to 24.00

PAKHUIS

Vlaamse Kaai 76

This brew pub is situated in an old warehouse constructed around 1850. It opened as the Pakhuis in 1996. There are two drinking areas, the ground floor which has a central bar and also the brewing equipment which can be viewed and upstairs there is a drinking balcony. They serve three beers, Antwerp Blond at 5.1%, Antwerp Bruin at 5.5% and Nen Bangelijke at 9.5%, If you are in a group (or like a lot of beer) you can order a pitcher 1.3L. A very convenient watering hole if you have visited the Museum of Fine Arts. This bar is very big on food. Open daily from 11.00. Food stops at 22.00.

Directions. This bar is situated a little way out of the centre towards the south of the city. If you are walking you can either; from station proceed along De Keyserli to junction with Frankrilklei turn left and proceed to end of dual carriageway at end of Americalei, turn right along J.V.Gentstraat, Vlaamse Kaai is about the fourth street on right, pub is just a few metres along on right enter through a courtyard, pub entrance is on right, its about a three and a half km walk. From Groenplaats proceed down Reyndersstraat to end and turn left along main road by side of river for about one and a half Km as far as Namenstraat, turn left then second left along Vlaamsekaai, pub on right. 

 

 

 

 

 

DEN ENGEL

Grote Markt 3

Reputed to be one of the oldest bars in Antwerp (14th century) Den Engel is situated on the south side of the Grote Markt next to the Staidhuis (Town Hall) and is surrounded by many other bars and cafes.The bar you see today was opened in 1903 inside there is a long bar and plenty of seating there is also plenty of seating outside which is very popular is summer. Open every day early until late.
